Remembering Josef Lambrecht (1906-1958)

With his electrotechnical inventions, electrician Josef Lambrecht laid the foundation for Jola Spezialschalter in the early 1950s. The company name still commemorates him today.

As part of the 70th anniversary of the founding of Jola Spezialschalter, the memory of 4 people who significantly shaped the company will be kept alive. On the anniversary of their respective death, a small commemoration ceremony is held in the inner courtyard shortly before the lunch break, at which the management celebrates their lives and work.

The forth commemoration on 21 September 2022 was about Josef Lambrecht, who managed the electrical workshop of the full cloth factory Gebrüder Haas (Haas Brothers) as a so-called “master electrician”. To take care of technical problems in the dye factory, he developed “a watertight control switch for drives in wet plants, especially piece dyeing machines”. On 3 December 1952, Jola Spezialschalter GmbH was founded as a small companion of the cloth factory. The first two letters of the first and family name of Josef Lambrecht were chosen as the company name.

The current Managing Director Lars Mattil and his father Volker Mattil – Managing Director from 1978 to 2018 – welcomed Josef Lambrecht’s descendants as very special visitors to the memorial service: Marliese Koppenhagen (his stepdaughter) and her son Dr. Norbert Koppenhagen. Fittingly, the latter is also an innovative professional at SAP SE as Vice President & Chief Research Engineer. He told this about his step-grandfather:

“A personality is coming together for me. My grandfather was someone I really, really would have liked to meet in person. […]His spectrum of technical engineering went very far. […] I’m sure […] he would have been interested in how digitalisation is currently progressing.”

A video was published on 2 January 2023 on the YouTube channel “Inside Jola”.
