BG Training Van Trains Jola Employees in Work and Health Safety

For three days – from Wednesday to Friday, 25-27 September 2024 – the rolling training centre of the Association Energy Textile Electrical and Media Products (BG ETEM) made a stop at Jola Spezialschalter in Lambrecht. In the huge truck – expertly guided by Ralf Präkels – all employees were introduced to the accident and health hazards from their everyday work in eight topic-specific small groups.

Präkels took on the topic of road safety and load securing and really let it rip on the subject of hazardous substances in the truest sense of the word. He was joined by two health and safety supervisors from BG ETEM: Marco Hartmann, who is currently responsible for Jola, and Christoph Mattes. For the latter, the assignment at Jola was a welcome appointment, as he had supervised the company for several years from 1999 and had even done a holiday job in production there at the age of 14.

Jola’s safety officer Martin Anton was delighted that the training van was now also a guest in Lambrecht under his aegis after having been deployed in 2002 and 2016. “The whole thing is a huge organisational effort, but it’s worth it! Even if you think you know everything and have paid attention to everything, you can always learn something new or a different perspective – and that was the case in all the training blocks,” he says, assessing the event. Managing director Lars Mattil also speaks positively of the training: “Experts from outside the company can increase motivation for safety-compliant behaviour and sharpen the eye for risk – the sixth sense for dangers – because they get around more than we do in different companies and have already experienced a lot in practice, which they can talk about vividly.”

For Jola, occupational health and safety is not just a question of social and legal responsibility, but a personal concern of the management: “Every cut to the hand, every sprained foot, every work-related illness is like a breakdown that costs us time, money and nerves. But it’s much worse when a Jolarian is injured or strained. Thank goodness this rarely happens, and we want to keep it that way! Investments in occupational safety, health protection and employee training always pay off – for our company as well as for the individual. After all, those who work safely also produce good quality and results because they are organised, focused and attentive. For us, quality and safety go hand in hand”, says Mattil.
